PROJECT BIKE ME! RACE BIKE PART III

 by Dino

After recovering from the Wrong Way Down last weekend, I was finally able to get back in my garage and dick with my bikes, with special attention to the BIKE ME! 675 race bike.

Dino's repaired radiator matches the spots on his garage floor perfectly

And this shot reminds him of someone

I picked up my once-crushed radiator on Friday from  Brett at Better Radiators (cnr Adderley & Alban St, Lidcome). For a grand total of $75.00, I was impressed with the fine job (as can be seen in the picture).

You may remember the condition of the radiator from the first post. Well, I thought it was time for a new one, but tried these guys anyway and got a great result.

It slotted neatly home behind the front wheel and was soon connected and topped up with coolant. Yes, I know it should be water for racing, but as I have a way to go yet, coolant keeps it from corroding in the mean time.

The forks arrived in mint condition from stateside and after dicking around a bit with the stock triple tree and talking to Steve Cutting from Weaponry (and with a bit of information from Our Ian) we decided to go with the complete Suzuki front-end. As it happened, the Suzuki triple tree was a perfect fit to the Triumph's steering head using the same bearings and locking nuts, with a slightly different offset. We think we may have a better track geometry than the original, but before giving this away I want to try it on the track first.

As for the Suzuki front wheel and rotors, I scored them off Weaponry as freebies, so give them your patronage if you live on the North Shore.

Did I mention they now have a shmick new dyno and a tuning specialist called Roger? Well, that's what I call him and he seems to answer to it.

So, to total up what it has cost me so far...
