| VuPlex. I must remember to get some of that... |
AS I meandered gracefully about the 2008 Superbike Expo, as is my wont, I paused to hug my good friend Andy, whose Strapz and associated motorcycle luggage products I have long held to be some of the beautest things ever offered to riders.
As we embraced like men, he gave me a can of chemicals and said:
"You have to try this stuff."
"What is it?"
"It's plastic cleaner, but it's better than that other shit," he grinned.
When he said "that other shit" I took it he meant the stuff Klink carries with him on runs.
I had been impressed by "that other shit" whenever Klink hauled it out of his bag, sprayed some of it on his visor, then wiped away all the bugs, snot and clag that accumulates on one's visor when one is touring about this wide insect-filled land.
I am a traditionalist, and normally just dunked my goggles into the nearest bucket of water (or if they were really bad, wandered off to the shitter and used soap and water to get rid of the bigger insectodactyl guts). But Klink insisted that I try his "shit". I did and it worked a treat.
"I must remember to get some of that," I muttered to myself and promptly forgot all about it.
Until Andy bestowed a can of VuPlex Plastic Cleaner and Anti-Static Polish on me.
I used it to clean my goggles before departing the Island and was pleasantly excited by its chemically natural orange smell and the way it caused the shit to disappear off the goggle's lens. I fully looked forward to being blinded by the fumes before I got to Leongatha, but the bastard sure did clean crap away.
Well, I wasn't blinded at all -- and with each repeated application, small scratches and gouges in the goggles (brought about by my face-planting the unwary insects at all sorts of speeds, and dropping my helmet on the ground from time to time) would virtually disappear.
"Technology," I muttered to Biffa as I cleaned my goggles while he was getting booked outside of Cann River. "It's fabulous."
But since he had just been nailed by technology, Biffa gave me a look that would cause Hell to flinch and roared off into the distance.
I sighed contentedly.
What was left of my licence was still intact. My goggles were seriously clean, and the gentle parfum of chemical oranges wafted into my nostrils, as I set off in pursuit.
Good stuff, this VuPlex Plastic Cleaner and Anti-Static Polish. I have used it, and can say so with all honesty.
I do not know what it costs, 'cos I forgot to ask Andy, but a small can looks like it will last for about a thousand cleans of a visor. Maybe a million.
It also works on screens, other plasticky bits and metal -- though I have not used it on metal.
If you chose to get some, tell Andy I sent you. There's every chance he'll charge you more.
