Mat Mladin Imports have etched their reputation into the minds of the Australian riding public by providing safety and performance products. If you consider their brand mix which includes Joe Rocket, Vortex, Jardine, Toby and Yoshimura just to name a few, you will quickly register that they are very astute at picking what the market wants.

Once again they seem to have hit the nail on the head with the release of the Cortex/Tourmaster range of riding apparel. It is fair to say that the brands introduced to date have had more of a racing breed, so with the introduction of this new range, Mat Mladin Imports have served notice that they are primed for the touring market next.

The crew here at BIKE ME! has been fortunate enough to get hold of two of the denim jacket range, which is essentially traditional denim with riding features attached. While the Tourmaster series are going to offer the sub zero and water repelling features needed to face the elements, it is very clear that the denim range is as fashionable as riding gear can get.

Open up either the black DSX jacket that Mick is wearing or the 'distressed' denim adorned by myself and you get all of the usual suspects. A removable and washable liner as well as removable CE approved armour at the elbows, shoulders and back are what make these jackets extra special. The cut is a performance cut designed to be as comfortable as possible on the bike and there are the value adding of air vents, waist belts and a zipper at the rear to join up to pants which will also be available.

We will be using these jackets as much as possible over the coming months and will keep reader abreast of our discoveries. The denim range does not claimed to be waterproof or have unobtanium liners and stitching. It is simply a denim jacket for motorbikes. I think this will be just the treat for belting around town and sunny summer runs. It's horses for courses and these jackets look sure to be a winner. At $199 for the DSX and $299 for the distressed denim, there is little doubting the value for money. Anyway, what price to look cool?
